Large Enough and Small Enough
Am Yisrael is large enough to have a wide variety of programs for congregants of all ages and stages of life - and small enough to offer even more opportunities to learn, pray and gather in smaller, more intimate groups in which it is easy to develop new friendships.

Larger synagogue-wide events include High Holiday services when nearly all of our 465 households are present. Between 100 and 200 people attend each monthly Friday Night Live service - which is often SRO, Saturday morning Shabbat services when there is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the Purim Megillah reading, Purim Carnival and the JUF Event.

Groups of 15 - 30 gather for Sunday morning minyan, Shabbat Parsha Group, Tot Shabbat, Junior Congregation, the Womens Mitzvah Group, Monday night Talmud classes and many other events. Some services are intimate gatherings of 40-60 congregants and new attendees are welcomed by and get to know "regulars." This is true of weekly Friday night services, regular Shabbat services (no Bar or Bat Mitzvah) Sukkot, Passover, Shavuot and Tisha B'Av.

Whatever your interest, there is probably a Jewish option for you at Am Yisrael.

Where Members Live
Many Am Yisrael members live within 7 or 8 miles of Northfield, yet some live in communities such as Mount Prospect, Evanston, Chicago's Lakeview and Chicago's Gold Coast.

Am Yisrael's membership kit includes more information about our congregation, membership dues, Religious School and High Holiday services. We'll be happy to send it you.

Once you review it, a good way to answer many of your questions about the congregation is for one of our congregants to meet you (and your family) at a service or event. We'll also arrange for you to meet Rabbi Debra Newman Kamin so you may discuss your interests with her.
