 it has more recently emerged as a central stage for the Israeli-Palestinia
 n conflict. What do we know about the development of the city’s acropoli
 s? New research provides a fresh view on the evolution of this important a
 nd disputed ancient site.\n\n\nAndrew Lawler is an award-winning journalis
 t and writer. His latest book\, Under Jerusalem: The Buried History of the
  World’s Most Contested City (Doubleday\, 2021)\, tells the story of arc
 haeological digs at Jerusalem’s sacred sites set against the backdrop of
  the city’s politics and competing ideologies. As a journalist\, he has 
 written more than a thousand newspaper and magazine articles from more tha
 n two dozen countries. His byline has appeared in The New York Times\, The
  Washington Post\, National Geographic\, Smithsonian\, and many others. He
  is contributing writer for Science and contributing editor for Archaeolog
 y. Andrew is also on the editorial advisory board of Biblical Archaeology
