SUMMARY:Islamic Antisemitism: Its Origins\, Nature\, and Contemporary Conse
quences facilitated by Howard Schickler via zoom
DESCRIPTION:Howard Schickler will be hosting a group viewing of the seminar
"Islamic Antisemitism: Its Origins\, Nature\, and Contemporary Consequenc
es".\n\nThe session addresses the question of how the Jews' relatively saf
e position under Islamic rule\, as an inferior\, but non-threatening peopl
e\, degenerated into one where Jews were widely viewed as mortal enemies i
nvolved in an existential struggle with Islam.\n\nThis lecture from the Un
iversity of Indiana Institute for Contemporary Antisemitism addresses that
issue.\n\nHoward will be collecting material on Muslim anti-Judaism and a
ntisemitism both historical and contemporary from Jewish\, Muslim and acad
emic sources. If you would like to receive copies of these materials pleas
e let Howard know by clicking here.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSeminar description:\n\n
Islamic Antisemitism: Its Origins\, Nature\, and Contemporary Consequences
\nIslamic antisemitism is a particular form of Jew-hatred\, based on the f
usion of Islamic anti-Judaism from the old scriptures with modern European
antisemitism. Hence\, it is a combination of the most negative perception
s of Jews in both the Islamic and Christian worlds. Islamic antisemitism h
as strengthened an exclusively anti-Jewish reading of the Islamic scriptur
es\, has popularized European conspiracy myths in the Arab world\, and con
tinues to agitate against Israel in genocidal terms. Matthias Kuentzel dis
cusses some prominent features of Islamic antisemitism: What distinguishes
it from other forms of Jew-hatred? Dr. Kuentzel deals with the origins of
Islamic antisemitism and the role that Nazi Germany played in this and wi
ll address some of its current consequences.\n\nMatthias Küntzel is a pol
itical scientist based in Hamburg. Between 2004 and 2015\, he was an exter
nal research associate at the Vidal Sassoon International Centre for the S
tudy of Antisemitism (SICSA) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. K
üntzel is the author of several books\, including Jihad and Jew-Hatred: I
slamism\, Nazism and the Roots of 9/11 (2009) and Germany and Iran: Past a
nd Present of a Fateful Friendship (2014). His most recent book\, publishe
d in German in 2019 is titled Nazis und der Nahe Osten. Wie der islamische
Antisemitismus entstand (Nazis and the Middle East. How Islamic Antisemit
ism came into being). Dr. Küntzel’s essays on Islamism\, antisemitism\,
and Iran have appeared in The Wall Street Journal\, The New Republic\, Th
e Jerusalem Post\, Die Zeit\, and elsewhere. More information is available
