From Cantor Rosenblatt:
Dear Friends,
Over the past year, I had the privilege of learning and growing with Am Yisrael. I have shared new music with you, learned your customs and traditions, and more. I look forward to a bright future with this warm community.
During the month of Elul I do my most meaningful professional and personal preparation for the year ahead. With this in mind, I would like to share a few of the new elements I plan to bring to Am Yisrael in the near future.
1.Sunday Morning Minyan– On September 8, the first Sunday of SJS, I plan to bring in guitar to our Sunday morning minyan services. The timing will remain a mere 30ish minutes! Please join us.
2.High Holidays – This year, we are excited to bring new energy to the bimah. Many of our beloved melodies will continue to be present though the music for High Holidays this year will sound different. Our soprano from the last few years, Rachel Goodman, will continue to sing with us this year. We are excited to welcome two new vocalists, Scott Spector and Justin Berkowitz. Our congregant, Jonah Greenthal, will be accompanying us on High Holidays as well.
Last year, Cantor Simon, along with choir members, Peter Pohhammer and Fred Zimmerman retired from singing and leading us for the High Holidays. Also, Cantor Simon’s son, Jeff, and nephew, Rob, have decided to no longer be leading Yigdal. We thank them all for their beautiful and long lasting contributions over the past 40 years!
3.New Tunes – During the month of Elul, I enjoy sharing thematic tunes. One is the Elul Niggun by Eitan Katz and the other is Achat Sha’alti (in Psalm 27) by Israel Katz. I hope you’ll join me in learning them through the videos linked here and here.
As we prepare for the High Holidays and the beginning of the SJS year, I look forward to davening and singing with you soon. Be on the lookout for a few more recordings of new tunes that you’ll hear during High Holidays in the weeks ahead.
In this season of transition for Am Yisrael, I am grateful to you all for your trust in me as your new cantor.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Warmly,
Cantor Dara Rosenblatt
