Southern Jews and the Confederacy and the Lost Cause – facilitated by Howard Schickler via zoom

Thursday, March 7, 6:30 pm

We are heading South for the next stop on Howard’s Random Walk Through Jewish History and Culture.
The subject will be the Jews of the Confederacy and The Lost Cause.

There will be two presentations:
The first by Robert Rosen, author of Confederate Jews, on the place of Jews in Southern society and their support of the South in the Civil War.
The second by Professor David Weinfeld on Southern Jews and their support of the Lost Cause (the view that the Civil War was not about slavery, but State’s Rights and the preservation of democracy).
Together the presentations should last a little more than an hour.

As always, Howard will be providing supplemental materials, if you would like to receive them, please click here.
